Give a Dorm Deck for the Holiday! Help First Time College Students Adjust to Dorm Room Living!
Shopping for college kids is hard for a million reasons, the biggest of which is the fact that we’re not cool anymore and don’t know what cool is. I’m in my early thirties and I’m already hopelessly out-of-touch and lame by a college freshman’s standards. I know how I approached dorm room living. That was before there was Dormify and the myriad of websites that focus on making your dorm room beautiful, functional, and completely organized.
It happens to the best of us. We all get out of touch.
That said, there are some things that I learned along the way that I wish I had known when I was college age. So, if you’re looking for something that college kids will use, here are my top three picks.
First on my list is Dorm Deck.
What’s a Dorm Deck? I’m so glad you asked! Dorm Deck is a deck of cards (comes in a cute, gender-neutral box) that is full of life hacks and advice prompts for college freshman. Dorm Deck helps young adults living on their own for the first time in a new place. It reminds first time college students to take care of their space, schoolwork, and mental and physical health while living in a new environment.
Dorm Deck is full of little tips and tricks to make college life just a little easier. It also comes with prompts that help college students stay organized so that they can succeed, rather than struggle. It’s everything you wish you would have known when you started college (but with cooler tips and tricks because of the tech available now). And at less than $20, what could be a better stocking stuffer or budget-conscious gift?!
Another cool product for college kids living in dorms is:
A small 4-drawer dresser with a built-in charging station. Not only is it a cute, easy way to add storage to a small space, but the functionality of the charging station makes it a dorm room MVP. I will warn you that this is a little pricey as far as a Christmas gift goes. With options, it ranges from around $150-$200. That said, these pieces can easily get students through their entire undergraduate degree, whether living in a dorm room or apartment. They’re light-weight and will be easy to take back and forth during move in and move out. Dormify also has a bunch of coordinating products, just in case you need more storage or storage ideas.
Last on my list is:
A really big one that people always seem to forget or overlook – EXPERIENCE GIFTS. I’m sure you can remember being in college and wanting to travel or see a show, but not having the resources to make that happen. I would have killed for gift certificates for flights, concert tickets, Airbnb’s or hotels, and events… the list is endless. Check out sites like Airbnb experiences or Tinggly. Give your favorite college students the gift of enjoying fun and memories that they’ll cherish forever.
Want to give them the best holiday gift ever? Get all 3!! None will go to waste, and may even make school easier the second semester.
I hope this helps you on your quest for the perfect present for college freshmen. Let us know if you have any other great ideas and we'll include them in the next gift guide. Happy shopping!
